How well do you know yourself?

How well do you know yourself? Understanding ourselves plays a critical role in life as it helps us make informed decisions, manage our emotions effectively and develop meaningful relationships. Below are the 5 personality quizzes that we’ve tried and highly recommend:

1.MBTI/16 Personalities

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is one of the most popular personality tests out there. The test is based on a theory by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, who has speculated that humans experience the world using four psychological functions: sensation, intuition, feeling and thinking.

One well-known component in this test is to place you on the extroversion vs. introversion spectrum. The test also helps you figure out whether you prefer using your senses or intuitions for processing information, whether you make decisions by thinking or feeling, and whether you have a judging or perceiving preference when it comes to how you do things.

At the end of the test, you will get a 4-letter result that indicates your personality type. There is no good or bad. All personality types are equal. The test is designed to help you find your strengths and weaknesses, and explore potential career paths for you.

While the official MBTI-branded version of the test is paid, there is a free version that could be very helpful as well: the 16 Personality Types test.

2.The Enneagram Type Indicator

The Enneagram Type Indicator is another popular personality test. Contrary to the MBTI, the Enneagram defines nine personality types (sometimes called “enneatypes”) and scores you on each one of the nine. The one with the highest score will be your dominant personality type.

While the branded Enneagram test is not free, it’s well worth the $12 providing analyses not only on your personality traits but also on how you deal with stress or trauma, your relationship issues and who you are compatible with emotionally. We also found this free version for you to try.

These two tests are highly popular and often discussed at workplaces. Many single people also put their MBTI or Enneagram type on their dating profiles. Give the test a try for a great conversation starter!

3.5 Love Languages

You may express love to your SO regularly, but are you communicating it in the way they want to receive it? The 5 love languages test is developed based on the bestselling book of the same name that outlines 5 general ways a person can express and experience love.

Love can get lost in translation when two partners don’t speak the same love language. Send this quiz to your partner and get to know each other better. If you are not in a relationship, there’s also a version for singles that can help you understand yourself and communicate your needs more effectively to dates and future partners. And finally, if you are a parent, you can get your kids to take the child version of the test too!

4.Goleman’s EQ Test

Emotional intelligence or emotional quotient (EQ) measures an individual’s ability to recognize their own emotions and those of others. EQ reflects a person’s ability to empathize with others:
  • identify, evaluate, control and express emotions one’s own emotions;
  • perceive, and assess others’ emotions;
  • use emotions to facilitate thinking, understand emotional meanings.

The Goleman’s EQ test is inspired by Daniel Goleman, psychologist and science journalist for the New York Times. It gives you some real life scenarios and asks you how you’ll naturally react to them. The test is out of 200 and it’s not common to get over 120. Give it a try and have fun!

5.EQ Test by Institute for Health and Human Potential

The last quiz on our list is short and sweet, developed by the Institute for Health and Human Potential. This EQ test evaluates you on your emotional intelligence and gives recommendations on how you can manage your emotions and connect well with others.
